Choosing on how to manage your services either locally or globally?

As your business becomes reliant on IT services to either help run your business, or become competitive in the market, you need to understand how you wish your services are managed and run.

What is classed as a server?

A server is a computer program or device that provides a service to another computer program and its user, also known as the client. In a data center, the physical computer that a server program runs on is also frequently referred to as a server. That machine may be a dedicated server or it may be used for other purposes as well.

In the client/server programming model, a server program awaits and fulfills requests from client programs, which may be running in the same or other computers. A given application in a computer may function as a client with requests for services from other programs and also as a server of requests from other programs.

Office based servers

If you intend to run local services within the parameters of the office, then a local server is both secure and reliable. The issue for local servers is that they need to be well managed including the costs elements.

Types of servers
Here is a list of servers that

  1. A Web server is a computer program that serves requested HTML pages or files. In this case, a Web browser acts as the client.
  2. An application server is a program in a computer in a distributed network that provides the business logic for an application program.
  3. A proxy server is software that acts as an intermediary between an endpoint device, such as a computer, and another server from which a user or client is requesting a service.
  4. A mail server is an application that receives incoming e-mails from local users (people within the same domain) and remote senders and forwards outgoing e-mails for delivery.
  5. A virtual server is a program running on a shared server that is configured in such a way that it seems to each user that they have complete control of a server.
  6. A blade server is a server chassis housing multiple thin, modular electronic circuit boards, known as server blades. Each blade is a server in its own right, often dedicated to a single application.
  7. A file server is a computer responsible for the central storage and management of data files so that other computers on the same network can access them.
  8. A policy server is a security component of a policy-based network that provides authorization services and facilitates tracking and control of files.

Cloud servers

As we see a growing number of our Client's looking to use cloud based servers, it allows the flexibility as well as the reliability to manage those. Cost of managing in house servers are expensive and using resources that are not required are costly, which is why cloud servers are ideal.

If you are running applications, to hosting your website or using this as a shared network drive, a cloud server allows you to manage your IT resources with minimal costing.

Another important benefit of using a cloud server is that the downtime is non existent, due the ability of other servers within the cluster to take over the load and continue to serve. For example, using one of Tech ICS's web servers, our system allows and distrutes the load balancing, to ensure all our hosted applications or web sites are controlled, managed and secured. This can happen for example, if your website receives a burst of traffic, each web server experiences a modest increase in traffic and continues to effectively perform without disruption.

How Does Cloud Computing Work?

To access your services, you will need to be connected to the internet. The small draw backs to using cloud based applications is that if there are downtime on your internet or that far too many people are on the internet, it can slow down the use of using cloud based applications.
