IBM also known as International Business Machines Corp’s bid to buy Red Hat for $34 billion is being considered. Regulators are considering whether to allow this, as IBM are considering to move from a open source based to more of a subscription based software offerings.

This will increase in the sales of software which is currently being used as open source. The company Red Hat was founded in 1993 and they specialised in Linux operating systems, which is open source. It is now used vastly within the industry due to its reliability.

The EU commission are considering this and have been given until 27th of June 2019 to make a decision on this. US regulators have not raised any issues and have approved the deal.

It is important to consider that should IBM complete the purchase of Red Hat, the open source market which is being offered by Red Hat will soon be in a paid subscription, and will most certainly impact consumers.
